A Message from Matt's Mom

(August 19, 2004)

I've never written a message here but look at the site every day.  Part of why I decided to post a message is to tell ALL of you how much you've meant to Steve and me.  Family, friends, friends of Matt's that we didn't know - but have grown to know and love, friends of Matt that we still don't know - but would like to know -- ALL of you have helped us in your own unique, individual and heartfelt way.

Two years ago today was a Sunday, and it's the last time we saw Matt.   He came to the house to work on Little Matt's resume for his application to Dell.  He was as he always was - smiling, hugging, laughing, eating, talking about his friends.  I'm able to see him that way now for the first time.

This poem has touched me - "For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and melt into the sun?  And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless times that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?  Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.  And when you have reached the mountaintop, then you shall begin to climb.  And when the earth has claimed your limbs, then shall you truly dance."

Matt - you filled our life with love and laughter.  Our greatest joy was watching you mature into a man.  And just then, you were gone without a goodbye - a life unfinished in this world.  We miss you still, we will love you always.

Thank you family and friends for always remembering and missing him.
